Over eighty years ago, Helen Danis couldn’t make her school’s prom. Her family couldn’t afford it.

“I couldn’t keep up with the kids,” Danis said in an interview with CNN affiliate WJAR. “I didn’t really fit in. We were in the middle of a depression and money was scarce.”

Fortunately, Helen’s granddaughter, Julie Huddon, has helped her experience this memorable event.

Julie received permission from the high school where she serves as principal to have her grandmother attend the prom last Saturday at the age of 97.

Ms. Danis couldn’t have been more excited.

“We’ve been doing a lot of things that she has said she wanted to do,” Huddon told WJAR. “She sat on Santa’s lap for the first time in December. I never know about her, she’s full of surprises.”

Huddon was even sure to give her grandmother a proper promposal.

“I got a crown for her and wrote her a note, asking her to be my date to prom,” Huddon said.

Danis was able to dance to the Hully Gully (that’s a line dance from The Sixties), as well as more recent dances like the Cupid Shuffle and the Cha-Cha Slide.
