AURORA, Colo. — A group of Colorado Girl Scouts, their leaders and family members went to the Rocky Mountain Regional VA Medical Center for a very special occasion. The troop was dropping off 12,000 boxes of cookies donated by Colorado residents.
“Our veterans serve us and they help keep our freedom and they keep us protected so we wanted to give back so they know they’re appreciated,” said Girl Scout Emma Bacon, 13.
It took a trailer to carry all of the cookies to the hospital. Once it arrived, the Girl Scouts separated into groups of four to deliver the cookies to patients and staff all over the massive building.
How did the Girl Scouts manage to get so many cookies donated? This year, they advertised the fact that cookies could not only be purchased for one’s self, but they could also be purchased for sick veterans staying at the hospital. Colorado residents were happy to contribute to this great cause.
“They help us and … protect us so we can be free so we’re just giving back to them,” said Girl Scout Chloe Vaughn, 12.
The Girl Scouts were able to collect so many cookies for the veterans that they had left overs. The rest of the cookies will be sent to VA Hospitals throughout the state of Colorado.
“It made me feel really good and I know they really felt appreciative of us noticing them and giving back,” said Bacon.
