Washington Girl Reunited with Pet Pig

EVERETT, Wash. — Twelve-year-old Brooke Koles could hardly believe her eyes. Nearly two weeks ago she was told that her beloved pet, Copper, had “pig-napped”. Now, a series of fortunate events has this family reunited.

Almost two weeks ago, Brooke noticed that Copper, a Kune Kune-Julianna crossbreed pig, had escaped from the family’s backyard. Brooke began to ask around the neighborhood if anyone had seen her big. Neighbor Tony Youngblood was king enough to offer his hunting dog, Blies, to track Copper’s scent.

“I took him to their backyard where the pig was staying at, let him smell around, boy he dragged me down to Dunn Lumber, sat right by the front door, let me know he was there.”

The “Pig-napping”…?

Local media obtained the surveillance footage from the lumber store that same day and aired it on the evening news. The footage clearly shows Copper walking into the parking lot. Then, just minutes later, a red truck pulls into the parking lot. Next, two men exit the vehicle and then head toward Copper.

The two men had a brief conversation with a lumber store employee before putting Copper in the bed of their truck and driving away. Cindy Newman, Brooke’s mother, filed a missing pig report with local police after seeing the tape.

Almost two weeks later, Newman received an e-mail from Sandi Quintero. In the e-mail, she said that a friend had brought the pig to her to take care of it while the searched for the rightful owner. She had previously owned a pig, so she was happy to take care of Copper for a few days. Quintero said that she saw a “missing pig” ad on Craigslist and e-mailed the poster right away.

Brooke couldn’t be happier to have her friend back home. “It’s amazing. I was so happy.”
