Bhutan Makes Teachers, Medical Professionals Nation’s Highest Paid Public Employees

Bhutan is receiving praise from around the world after announcing wage hikes for certain public employees. Teachers and medical professionals will now be the highest paid public employees in the country, The Bhutanese reports.

Lauding the change as a “huge strategical move”, the news site explained that move as a dramatic change to previous norms within the country.

“The numbers of teachers involved in the hike are huge as there are 8,679 teachers, followed by the medical staff who number around 4,000”, The Bhutanese explained.

The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement. “If the pay revision comes through as proposed by the government, teaching becomes the highest paid profession in the country.”

Local Media supposes that long hours and stress contributed to the rate increase.
