Former K-9 Officer Finds New Home After Amputation

After losing a leg to cancer, a former Massachusets K-9 officer has found a new home.

Blue, a Bloodhound, was diagnosed with a soft tissue sarcoma in April. This type of cancer requires quick intervention to prevent spreading. In this case, Blue’s front right leg had to be amputated. The surgery forced Blue into retirement.

Officials have since announced that Blue has been adopted by a family with another rescued Bloodhound named Gertrude.

“We’re no longer blue bc Blue is adopted!” officials tweeted, along with pictures of the happy dog.

The adoptive family, who wish to maintain their anonymity, stated to local media that Blue and Gertrude have become good friends.

Rescue workers who aided Blue after the amputation say he’s even easier to love now.

“He is a wonderful dog — well trained, friendly and social — and we think his new ‘tripod’ status makes him all the more adorable,” said Meaghan O’Leary, director of a local adoption center.
