ALBUQUERQUE, New Mex. — Some helpful New Mexicans purchased a new car for a stranded traveler.

Brad Mitzl was on his way to John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland to receive treatment for a brain tumor. Unfortunately, his car broke down along the way. He lived out of his car for weeks. He parked in a gas station parking lot and the community quickly took notice.

Leah Lemmon works as an attendant at the gas station. “We’ve been giving him burritos and things that we sell here. We’re trying to keep his spirits up while we plea to the community for help.”

The mechanics were unable to fix Mitzl’s car. They determined the damage was significant and extensive. Upon hearing this news, his new neighbors started GoFundMe to help with his expenses. Local media reported that the funds raised were enough to purchase a new vehicle and cover some additional travelling expenses.

Mitzl appeared moved in a TV interview. “I mean thank you is not even enough. Thank you, New Mexico. I never expected this.”
